Istebna welcomed riders with beautiful sunshine and very warm weather, which has been kind of standard for past several years. Over 620 contestants from all over the world (including first ever riders from Israel, Moldova and Finland) set off towards Wielki Stożek – the first main obstacle of today's stage.
Stage 1, even though not the longest, was definitely one of the most demanding – both physically and technically. Sharp teeth of climbs to Stożek, Czantoria or Przegibek have bitten in cyclists’ legs very deep. If someone thought the descents will be a good chance to recover, he or she couldn't be more wrong! Pieces like the downhill section to Kuczory, which was last featured in Beskidy MTB Trophy 2009, will surely remain in the competitors memory for a long time.
Seriously, this segment is something completely different! The competition today was dominated by foreign riders. The fastest rider today on CLASSIC distance was Mathias Frohn from Team NRW (Germany). The podium was completed by Sebastien Pele of AVC Team (France) oraz Milan Damek of Team Bikeworld (Czech Rep.). Meanwhile on the shorter (MEGA) distance 1st spot for Jan Stastsny of Alset Racing Team (Czech Rep.), second went to Paweł Kurzyca of Rafako Orbea MTB Team (Poland), and third to Paweł Gołębicki of Torus Team Gdańsk (also Poland).
Tomorrow the longest stage with the race's rooftop - Rysianka. The weather forecast isn't so kind, but remember that these are mountains so anything can happen!
