MTBT Stage 4: 10th editon goes down to history!

The ultimate act of Beskidy MTB Trophy 2016 welcomed riders with nice, but cloudy weather. The GCs leaders’ advantage over their rivals was rather safe, but there was no question about a “friendly stage”. Because of the elevation, today’s stage was named by many the hardest day of the race.

Two very demanding climbs awaited the riders on the initial kilometers of the stage: Szarcula and Salmopol. The race on CLASSIC distance was once again conducted by the NILFISK-ALTO PRO CYCLING, who used a hard terrain to tear up the group and take the lead in the last stage of the race. But today the rivals were more than motivated to stay on the Michal Kanera’s wheel. On the 20th kilometer the gap between him and the chasing group was no more than 40 seconds. But the pursuit wasn’t Kanera’s only problem. Two flat tires made him loose the lead in the stage and put his 1st place in the GC under a serious question. GC runner-up Maletz and 3rd Janowski had their own business to settle as the time difference between them was only two minutes.

“The gap between me and Christoph wasn’t big and I knew that it’s still possible to close it and regain the lead in M3 and 2nd spot in open category. I tried to control him from the start, maybe counting on his weaker day. That didn’t happen and we switched places during the stage many times. I had a hard time on Klimczok climb, when Christoph ridden away and I lost him from sight. However I managed to catch him on tarmac sections near Brenna. I knew I had to do something and put all in. That’s why I attacked on the penultimate climb of the day. From then on it was full gas on uphill and flat sections and “no braking rule” on descents. It paid off – winning the last stage, M3 category and 2nd place open in competition with very strong rivals is a really great result. I’m more than happy with it!” said the best Pole on the CLASSIC distance – Bartosz Janowski of ROMET RACING TEAM. Christopher Maletz (TEAM FUJIBIKES ROCKETS) arrived 2nd today and the stage’s podium was completed by Michał Neumann (DMG MORI CYCLO TRENER TEAM) Michal Kanera who had many mechanical problems today came 4th today but kept the lead in the overall GC.

Only an extraordinary bad luck could take away Michalina Ziółkowska’s final triumph in Beskidy MTB Trophy 2016. Luckily that didn’t happen and VOLKSWAGEN SAMOCHODY UŻYTKOWE MTB TEAM rideress completed 4 stage wins and a certain 1st place in the general classification. 2nd spot for Sandra Backman (SCUDERIA BIKEITALY BMC) and 3rd for Anna Świrkowicz (TEAM.ASE.COM.PL).

On MEGA distance Dominik Grządziel (ROMET RACING TEAM)sealed his lead in men general classification. He left no doubts and carried out an atomic attack on the first gravel climb. This allowed him to increase his GC advantage over 2nd today Rafał Nogowczyk (KREIDLER FAN-SPORT MTB RACING TEAM) by 2 minutes. Third spot on the stage for Grzegorz Maleszka (FINISHER.PL DACHLAND OLSZTYN). Arek Petka of LEW LĘBORK (5th today) kept his 3rd place in men GC.
Yet again Anna Urban (TWR CLOUDWARE) was the fastest in women’s race on shorter distance. She, just like in past days, outridden Ewa Rebane-Sodowska and Ieva Strele (PICTURE HAPPY MTB).

10th jubilee edition of Beskidy MTB Trophy goes down to history. It will be remembered as the one with the highest number of participants (709 on the start of the first stage) from all over the world (26 countries from 5 continents). Riders had a chance to compete in very diverse conditions – from climbing to a hazy peak of Wielki stożek, to descending from bathed in sun Rysianka downhill. One could tell that this year’s edition was a 10-year race’s history in a nutshell. The second decade starts next year, but we are opening the registration in a month from now. Be alert, as the entry packages for Beskidy MTB Trophy spread like hotcakes!
